Glucose Tolerance Test – 3 Hour

The night before the test, do not eat or drink after 12:00 midnight. If you do not fast, you cannot have the test done.

Three days prior to the test you will need to ADD SOME ITEMS to your diet. You will need an additional 150 grams of carbohydrates per day. Look at the label and pick from the following examples:

  • one cup of pasta each day
  • two servings of fruit each day
  • four slices of bread each day
  • three glasses of milk each day

We ask that you arrive to the office at 8:30 am. When you get to the office, a fasting blood sample will be drawn. You will then be given another glucola drink. After that, your blood will be drawn 3 more times (once every hour).

Bring something with you to do or read because you need to stay at the office the entire time, approximately three hours.

When Marion Women’s Health Center receives your results, we will call if the results are abnormal. We will not call you if the results are normal.

If you have any questions, please call the office.
